Smart Historical Romance With Just the Right Chemistry...

Sweet Enemy is a 2010 Golden Heart Finalist.  It is currently unpublished, but I will be certain to update this site when that status changes.

Sweet Enemy

Geoffrey Wentworth, war hero and rising political star, never wanted to be the earl, but like any good soldier, he knows his duty.  Upon his brother’s death, he scuttles his plans for his own life and takes up the duty of running the family estates.  His mother’s definition of duty differs from his, however, and can be summed up in one word--heirs.  When Geoffrey rushes home from Parliament to answer her urgent summons, he finds himself host to a house full of women, all vying to become the next Countess of Stratford.

Liliana Claremont doesn’t want to be any man’s wife, much less a Countess.  The orphaned daughter of a well respected chemist, Liliana is a brilliant scientist in her own right, though getting most men to recognize that seems hopeless.  If she had tuppence for every time she’d been told her place was in the nursery, not the laboratory, she could buy the Tower Bridge.  However, when she receives a coveted invitation to the Earl of Stratford’s house party, she trades in her beakers for ball gowns and travels to Somerton Park in the guise of husband-hunter for one reason: she wants to uncover what Geoffrey had to do with the murder of her father.

Liliana believes the best way to get the answers she needs is to keep her enemy close, though romance is not part of her formula.  But every good chemist would do well to remember--when you combine two unknown substances, you just might start a reaction you can't control...
